Weather deals setback, but apple growers hopeful

BELDENVILLE--Long-time area apple growers agree this season’s weather has been unusual, to say the least.
Nonetheless, there’s some optimism about an apple crop being produced this year out in Pierce County’s orchards. To what degree the trees have been hurt by early blooming and freezing temperatures thereafter remained to be determined as of last week.
“In the 23 years I’ve been here, I’ve never seen anything like this,” said Wilson Mills of Circle K Orchard in Beldenville Wednesday, referring to the late-winter-and-early-spring’s extremely mild conditions.
