NEW YORK - The Minnesota Vikings made a pair of trades to get an offensive lineman and a defensive back in the first round of the 2012 NFL Draft. Minnesota selected USC tackle Matt Kalil fourth overall and took Notre Dame safety Harrison Smith at number 29.

The Vikings swapped their third pick with Cleveland for the Browns' number-four selection along with a fourth, fifth and seventh-round pick. Minnesota later sent its second-round pick and a fourth-rounder to the Ravens to move up to the 29th pick.

Vikings' head coach Leslie Frazier says Kalil will solidify a key position on the team for many years to come. GM Rick Spielman says Harrison Smith is an extremely talented safety who has very good range, very good size and great football passion.

Notre Dame receiver Michael Floyd will be playing opposite Pro Bowl wide-out Larry Fitzgerald on Sundays in Arizona. The Cardinals drafted the St.Paul native and Cretin-Derham Hall grad with the 13th overall pick. Floyd is the Fighting Irish's all-time leading wide receiver. He and Fitzgerald are both from Minnesota and plan to work out together this summer.
