MINNEAPOLIS -- The Minnesota Twins and Kansas City Royals open a three-game series tonight at Target Field (7pm).

Minnesota looks to snap a five-game losing skid while Kansas City has won two in row. Right-hander Carl Pavano is scheduled to start for the Twins. The Royals will send lefty Everett Teaford to the mound as an injury replacement for Danny Duffy who has a tender elbow. Minnesota and Kansas City are tied for last place in the American League Center with 5-14 records.

Twins first baseman Chris Parmelee is doing well after getting hit in the head by a pitch in Wednesday's loss to Boston. Parmelee was re-examined by doctors Thursday and is listed as day-to-day. He was on the ground for several minutes when Red Sox pitcher Justin Thomas beaned him in the helmet with a 93-mile-per-hour fastball. Parmelee is hitting .240 with four doubles and triple in games with Minnesota.

The Royals beat the Indians 4-2 in Cleveland Thursday for their second series win of the season. KC had lost 12 consecutive games before taking two straight from the Tribe. Luis Mendoza pitched five-plus innings of two-run ball for his first victory and the bullpen threw four scoreless frames. The Royals are in Minnesota for a three-game set this weekend.
