Zeitler drafted by the Bengals

MADISON - Kevin Zeitler was the only University of Wisconsin player to be drafted in the first round. The Cincinnati Bengals selected the first-team All-American guard with 27th pick.

It was the second year in a row that a UW offensive lineman was taken in the first round, after the Chicago Bears took Gabe Carimi with the 29th pick a year ago. NFL Network analyst Mike Mayock called Zeitler “proficient, strong, nasty,” and a solid player. And Mayock said Zeitler will provide immediate help, after the Bengals had signed journeyman guards Jacob Bell and Travel Worton this spring to try-and-bolster their line. Cincinnati was 19th among the 32 NFL teams in rushing offense last year with just over 111 yards a game.

Badgers’ center Peter Konz was also a possibility for the first round, but he was not taken. Konz and quarterback Russell Wilson could be the next Badgers taken off the board when Rounds two-and-three of the NFL Draft take place tonight.
