TO THE EDITOR: Why I disagree with the GAB’s decision to allow fake candidates on the recall ballots.
Declaration of Candidacy:
“I, (Candidate’s name), being duly sworn, state that I am a candidate for the office of (Official name of office - Include district, branch or seat number) representing (Name of political party or statement of principle - five words or less)…”
This language is taken directly from the form used to file for candidacy in state elections. Please note where the word “representing” falls in relation to “Name of political party.” If the fake candidates (aka Republicans) were “duly sworn” to represent the Democratic Party of Wisconsin, they are nothing more than liars.
The Republican Party in Wisconsin is repeating a shameful end run to subvert the political process. They are again thumbing their noses at honest, straight-forward ballot contests, and opt to use trickery and falsehoods to manipulate voters and elections.
These fake candidates do not represent Democrats any more than their GOP masters represent integrity. Thanks to these purveyors of dishonesty, their credibility is bankrupt and civility in Wisconsin politics is circling the drain.
