Roof back on Vikings' stadium proposal

ST. PAUL -- A roof appears to be back in the mix for a Vikings stadium as Republicans try to hammer out details on a plan that would use state bonds to help fund the project.

Governor Mark Dayton has indicated he's willing to explore the proposal further. Republicans said there would probably have to be a roof on the stadium because state bonds require a "public purpose" -- in this case, year-round events other than Vikings games. But Senate Democratic Minority Leader Tom Bakk (DFL-Cook) questions whether bonding requirements in the state Constitution would allow a private tenant -- in this case the Vikings -- to enter into an exclusive 40-year lease of a public building.

The Vikings added two played to their roster yesterday. Tight end Daniel Hardy out of Idaho and offensive guard Butch Lewis out of Southern California were signed. They will take part in offseason workouts with the hopes of making the team's permanent roster this fall.
