Head coach Cheryl Reeve says they are implementing several new concepts during the preseason workouts and increasing the intensity each day. The Lynx open the preseason slate at Connecticut on May 10th. The regular season opens at the Target Center against Phoenix on May 20th.
Former Wild star Marian Gaborik tallied with 5:19 remaining in the third overtime last night, sending his New York Rangers past Washington 2-1 in Game Three of this Eastern Conference semifinal series. Game Four is set for Saturday afternoon.
The National Lacrosse League has named Minnesota Swarm player Jordan MacIntosh as the Transition Player of the Week. MacIntosh posted a career high six points in a 16-13 win against Colorado over the weekend. The Swarm open the playoffs at Colorado on Saturday night.
Butler University is joining the Atlantic 10 Conference. The Bulldogs will leave the Horizon League and join the A-10 beginning July 1st, 2013. Butler has 19 athletic teams, including 17 that will participate in the Atlantic 10. The Bulldogs are best known for their men's basketball team, which lost after reaching back-to-back NCAA championship games in the spring of 2010 and 2011. Butler will take the spot vacated by Temple, which is leaving the Atlantic 10 to join the Big East.
"Bodemeister" and "Union Rags" head the field for Saturday's 138th running of the Kentucky Derby. "Bodemeister" will start from gate six following yesterday's post-position draw. The Arkansas Derby winner has been installed as a 4-to-1 morning line favorite. "Union Rags" will break from post four and is the second favorite at 9-to-2. Third choice "Gemologist" will start from gate 15 at 6-to-1 odds. A full field of 20 will compete in the first leg of this year's Triple Crown. Saturday's post time is set for 5:24 p.m.
