VIROQUA - State-and-local authorities will make a new effort to solve a murder that happened 28 years ago tomorrow in southwest Wisconsin.

Vernon County sheriff’s officials and the state Justice Department’s Cold Case Unit will hold a news conference today to discuss the details. The victim was a woman – but she was never identified, and that’s one of the mysteries investigators hope to solve.

She was killed in a rural area on May fourth of 1984. Retired chief deputy Jim Hanson still works on the case. He was the first patrol officer at the scene. Criminal investigators in neighboring Minnesota are also helping with the new probe.
