Ellsworth gets its first crack at state' top-ranked B-W this afternoon

Ellsworth High School's softball team gets its first chance this season to face the state's top-ranked softball team in Division 2 when it plays Baldwin-Woodville this afternoon at its field behind Ellsworth High School. First pitch is at 5 p.m.

For EHS, 8-1 overall and 6-1 in the Middle Border Conference, to win they'll have to figure out a way to get on base and score runs against B-W pitcher Abby Klopp. The sophomore, who took B-W all the way to the state finals as a freshman, has an ERA 0.72 and has 132 strikeouts. She has led the Blackhawks to a perfect 12-0 record, 8-0 in the MBC. She's also near automatic at the plate with a .636 batting average. She lead the team with 22 RBIs.

Others leading B-W in hitting are junior infielder Heather Bol, junior outfielder Hannah Borgeson, junior shortstop Heidi Hinz and junior centerfielder Katie Thompson.

Ellsworth played two close games against B-W last season although both were defeats.
