GREEN BAY - Green Bay Packers’ free agent running back Ryan Grant is considering a contract offer from the Detroit Lions. His agent, Alan Herman, has confirmed several media reports that the Lions made an offer to the 29-year-old Grant.
Herman says the Packers have shown no interest in re-signing Grant. He has played five years in Green Bay with 4,016 rushing yards and 25 touchdowns. Grant ran over 1,200 yards in both 2008-and-’09. But he missed almost all of the 2010 season with an ankle injury. Grant returned to form late last season, running for 276 yards and two touchdowns in the Packers’ final five games. He also caught eight passes for 179 yards, including an 80-yard scoring scamper on a screen pass.
If Grant leaves, James Starks would become Green Bay’s top running back. Second-year pro Brandon Saine could be the main back-up. Second-year rusher Alex Green is coming off ACL knee surgery.
