A month-long art show, showcasing works created for Ellsworth’s Sesquicentennial, will be held at M&I Bank, beginning with an Open House Reception from noon-5 p.m. this Wednesday.
The display will feature over 100 pieces of art, utilizing various mediums and ranging in size from 8-by-11 to 22-by-28, created by students of Ellsworth Schools. Superintendent Barry Cain, along with Art Teacher Kristen Hanson, was instrumental in coordinating the large-scale project. Teachers Mary Lewien, Shelly Nelson, Mindy Anderson, and Hanson all had students participate by interpreting historical photos provided by the Pierce County Historical Association.
“The kids had no idea some of the old buildings even existed,” Hanson said. “I think they were excited by that.”
In addition to the historical art, Ellsworth’s miniature version of Cows on Parade will be featured at the art show. Fourteen cow statues were donated by local farmers and are being designed by local artists, including Ingrid Bjerstedt Rogers, Karl Sakschek and Mindy Anderson. The cows, along with the student artwork, will be auctioned off to allow residents the chance to own a piece of history reflecting Ellsworth. Because of the number of pieces, the student art will be available for bid on an online auction site, while bidding for the cows will take place from now through the Cheese Curd Festival with a silent auction.
The art will be available for viewing during lobby hours, weekdays from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., through Friday, June 8, with a closing reception from 3-8 p.m. that evening. Refreshments will be available, courtesy of the Sesquicentennial Committee. Contact the chamber office at (715) 273-6442 or firstname.lastname@example.org with any questions regarding the show, and watch for updates on the chamber’s website and Facebook page.
