MILWAUKEE - Corey Hart’s single through a drawn-in infield in the bottom of the 13th inning gave the Milwaukee Brewers an 8-7 win over the Cubs.
The bases were loaded with nobody out after reliever Lendy Castillo hit Rickie Weeks and Ryan Braun, then gave a single to Aramis Ramirez. Hart had pounded a two-run homer in the bottom of the ninth to tie the score at 7-7. Vinnie Chulk pitched two scoreless innings to earn his first major league victory since 2007. The wild, high-scoring game included Brewers closer John Axford blowing his first save in 49 tries.
In addition to the hit batters, Cubs pitchers walked 14 in the game which took five hours and four minutes to play. David DeJesus pounded a pinch-hit grand slam in the seventh inning for Chicago. Jonathan Lucroy’s bases-loaded double highlighted a four-run rally by Milwaukee in the bottom of that same innings. Axford gave up three runs in the ninth.
