MILWAUKEE - The second home run of Edwin Maysonet’s major league career came with the bases loaded Saturday. That grand slam in the sixth inning was the big blow in Milwaukee’s 8-2 win over the Chicago Cubs at Miller Park.

Shawn Marcum started for the Brewers, earning the win with seven innings of three-hit pitching, allowing just one run. He was matched by Cubs starter Chris Volstad until the fateful sixth. Volstad has started 18 games in a row without posting a victory, dating back to his time with the Florida Marlins.

Maysonet started because second baseman Rickie Weeks was resting his sore left wrist. He is listed as day to day after being hit there in the 13th inning of Friday’s marathon won by the Brewers 8-7. Milwaukee goes for the sweep today.

The Chicago Cubs placed closer Carlos Marmol on the 15 day disabled list with an injured hamstring yesterday. Casey Coleman was brought up from Triple-A Iowa in Des Moines. Marmol suffered the injury Friday while pitching in the seventh inning of a game against Milwaukee. He is 0-1 with a 6.35 ERA in 15 games this season.
