Prescott, Ellsworth baseball teams win weekend contests

Ellsworth came back from an 8-0 deficit at the end of the second inning to defeat St. Paul Highland Park 9-8 Saturday in Hager City.

Prescott won the Grantsburg Tournament with wins over Cameron and Grantsburg.

Senior Jake Betthauser was 2-for-4 with a double and two RBI to lead the Panthers (13-3, 10-2 Middle Border) and junior James Georgakas finished 1-for-3 with a double and two RBI.

Sophomore Isaac Hines came on in relief for Ellsworth, throwing 5 2/3 innings with three strikeouts to get the win.

Joey Silversmith and Nate Anderson each went 3-for-4 with a double and an RBI to lead St. Paul Highland Park. Anderson also had a stolen base.

St. Paul Highland Park scored a run in the first inning and seven in the second inning to take an 8-0 lead. Ellsworth responded with three in the second inning, three in the third inning and another run in the fourth to make it 8-7. The Panthers scored the winning runs in the bottom of the sixth inning.

Ellsworth faces Osceola Monday in Osceola.

No. 3 ranked Prescott meanwhile walloped Cameron 22-3 in their first game followed up with a 5-3 win over the host and No. 8 ranked Grantsburg. The Cards rallied from a 3-0 deficit by plating two runs fourth and fifth innings plus one more run in the sixth.

Mike Brookshaw hit a triple and drove in two runs for PHS. Mike Lytle had two runs and two RBIs. Connor Loutsch was the winning pitcher and Brookshaw got the save.

Prescott hosts Durand Monday afternoon at Firehall Field.
