Elmwood takes D-SC Small lead with win, Spring Valley in second
A 4-1 win over Alma/Pepin moved Elmwood into first place in the Dunn-St. Croix Small Monday. Spring Valley moved into second place with an 8-2 win over Plum City.
ELMWOOD - A 4-1 win over Alma/Pepin moved Elmwood into first place in the Dunn-St. Croix Small Monday. Spring Valley moved into second place with an 8-2 win over Plum City.
Elmwood is 7-5 in the league standings with one game left at Plum City Thursday. Spring Valley is now second at 5-4 and Alma/Pepin is 6-6.
The first inning was a disaster for the Eagles with a hit batsman plus back-to-back RBIs by Noah Wells and Logan Wolf which led to a 3-0 Raider advantage. Levi Wolf also drove in a run.
Wolf and Wells each went 3-for-4 with an RBI for Elmwood. Wolf also earned the win on the mound. Wolf struck out six and allowed one run on five hits and just one walk.
Zach Vreeland finished 2-for-3 with an RBI for the Eagles, who scored their lone run in the third inning.
Spring Valley meanwhile took down Plum City at Legion Park in PC. Four players had two hits each for the Cardinals and Joe Helmer and Zach Newton each had doubles. Gabe Verges and Andy Bune both scored twice for SV,
Tyler Niebur also scored twice for the Blue Devils and had a hit. Spring Valley despite Plum City pitcher Chad Fox's 14 strikeouts. The winning pitcher was Zach Newton.
Spring Valley still controls its own destiny to repeat as division champs but it's a daunting task. Valley is at D-SC Large champ and No.3 ranked Boyceville on Thursday, hosts a doubleheader Friday vs. Glenwood City and hosts Mondovi Monday.
