St. Croix Valley League season underway for county teams

All six Pierce County St. Croix Valley League amateur baseball teams were in action over Mother’s Day weekend.

Said action began Saturday afternoon as Plum City bounced back from bad SCVL-opening loss to Bay City by winning at St. Croix Falls 5-1. Tony Garner was the winning pitcher as he struck out 15 and allowed zero walks. Garner, Shawn Miley and Shawn Ingli all had two hits for PC while teammates Zach Watkins and Chris Biederman each had a hit.

Ellsworth won an evening contest at Hager City’s Brown Field 6-2. Mitch Johnson got the win as Jeremiah Paulson ripped out two doubles and three RBIs while Scott DeWyre hit for two RBIs and Nate Hove and Storm Gramm both had two hits and two runs scored.

Sunday’s games saw Elmwood winning its SCVL opener 6-1 at home over Hudson. Dylan DeMotts was the winning pitcher and the Expos' top hitters were Eric Konsela, Jonah Lansing and Royce Baier.

Prescott’s league opener was also successful as they routed Bay City 15-8 at Firehall field in Prescott. The game was tied at 4-4 in the fifth winning when Prescott outscored the Bombers 11-4 in the subsequent innings. The Pirates broke open the game with a five run fifth inning with a bases loaded walk, hit batsman and two-run RBI-double by Chris Terrazas and a SAC RBI on a towering fly ball in deep centerfield by Nick Johnson.

Johnson picked up the in pitching five innings and giving up two earned runs. Terrazas went 3-for-6 with a double and three RBIs while Johnson went 2-for-4, with two doubles and three RBIs. Everyone on the team had at least one hit.

Spring Valley, however, did not have a successful season or SCVL debut as New Richmond defeated them at home 6-2.
