Boaters and anglers seem to be joining the fight against the spread of zebra mussels, milfoil and other species that undermine Minnesota waterways.
The DNR says it found fewer violations during last weekend's fishing opener than in 2011. Among the most common violations: Boaters failing to remove drain plugs and transporting aquatic vegetation. Officials say the biggest problem is people forgetting they are required to bring water from home, so that when they get done fishing they need to drain their bait bucket and then refill it with water.
