Spring Valley one win away from D-SC Small title after sweeping GC

Spring Valley High School's baseball team posted back-to-back wins over Glenwood City in a doubleheader at Syverson Park Friday, putting them one-game away of clinching a share of the Dunn-St. Croix Small Division title.

SPRING VALLEY - Spring Valley High School's baseball team posted back-to-back wins over Glenwood City in a doubleheader at Syverson Park Friday, putting them one-game away of clinching a share of the Dunn-St. Croix Small Division title.

The doubleheader wins means Spring Valley just has to beat Mondovi Monday at Syverson Park in a similar rescheduled contest to claim a share of the league title along with Elmwood.

SV routed GC 17-1 in game one and 12-3 in game two. Zach Newton was the winning pitcher for both games. In eight innings he struck out 12 batters and gave up just six hits.

Top hitters for the Cards were Joe Helmer and Troy Rudesill in game one. Helmer went 3-for-4 with two doubles and Rudesill hit a double and triple. In game two its was Remington Schneider going a perfect 4-for-4 for Valley with two doubles, two runs scored and two RBIs and Gabe Verges had three hits, three runs scored and three stolen bases to go with a double and an RBI.
