MILWAUKEE - The Milwaukee Brewers have optioned infielder Brooks Conrad to Triple-A Nashville, making room for the expected activation of outfielder Carlos Gomez.

He wrapped up his rehab stint with Class-A Wisconsin yesterday. The team also designated right-handed pitcher Vinnie Chulk for assignment, making room for reliever Juan Perez.

Jason Dufner retained his lead at the Byron Nelson Championship yesterday. Sitting at eight under par entering today’s final round, he has a one-shot edge on three competitors tied for second. Madison golfer Jerry Kelly won’t be playing today after shooting a 79 Saturday and falling 16 shots off the pace.

Jimmie Johnson wins a check for $1,070,304 for taking his third Sprint Challenge race Saturday. He joins Dale Earnhardt and Jeff Gordon as the only NASCAR drivers to win the challenge three times. Cambridge native Matt Kenseth finished third and Eau Claire’s Paul Menard was 16th. Brad Keselowski pressed Johnson, but couldn’t pass him in the fourth phase.

Elliott Sadler won the pole for today’s Nationwide Series Pioneer Hi-Bred 250. Danica Patrick has the best starting position for a driver with a Wisconsin connection, starting ninth today in Newton, Iowa. Sparta’s Tim Schendel starts 39th.
