MILWAUKEE - Hector Sanchez hit a lead-off homer in the top of the 14th inning last night to give the San Francisco Giants a 4-3 victory over the Milwaukee Brewers at Miller Park.

Juan Perez gave up the game-winner on a fastball that landed over the wall in left-center. The loss drops him to 0-and-1. Giants’ closer Santiago Casilla pitched the final two innings for the win. He’s now 1-and-2. Buster Posey hit a three-run homer in the first frame. Aramis Ramirez made it a 3-to-1 game with an RBI-double in the sixth. And in the eighth, Ryan Braun tied it with a two-run homer – but Braun left in the 10th with tightness in his right groin. Both teams blew scoring opportunities in the 12th, but the Giants eventually prevailed as they improved to 14-7 in their last 21 games against Milwaukee.

San Francisco has won three-of-four overall. Milwaukee has dropped five-of-its-last-six – and the Crew is just 10-12 at Miller Park where they dominated a year ago. The Brewers and Giants will play again tonight. Right-hander Shaun Marcum starts against San Francisco right-hander Matt Cain.

Brewers’ first baseman Mat Gamel will have surgery today to fix the ACL ligament he tore in his right knee on May first. The Brewers said the operation had to be delayed because it took a long time to get the swelling down. Gamel was hurt while chasing a foul pop-up into the stands at San Diego. The Brewers say some other damage in the knee will also be addressed in the surgery, to be performed by team physician William Raasch. Gamel and Brewers’ shortstop Alex Gonzalez are both out for the season with ACL injuries. Gonzalez visited his teammates in the Brewers’ clubhouse before last night’s game. Meanwhile, reliever Vinnie Chulk has been sent outright to the Brewers’ Triple-“A” farm club at Nashville. He was designated for assignment last Saturday.
