PHS continues to struggle, lose to Durand 6-5

After a 9-3 start the Prescott High School softball teams has struggled to a 2-7 record through the month of May. This was punctuated by a 6-5 loss to Durand Monday afternoon.

ARKANSAW - After a 9-3 start the Prescott High School softball teams has struggled to a 2-7 record through the month of May. This was punctuated by a 6-5 loss to Durand Monday afternoon.

By contrast Durand, has won three out of four over the last two weeks of the season. It was only a few weeks ago Prescott pummeled the Panthers 13-3 in Prescott.

PHS led early but the let the game slip away from them in the fourth and fifth innings where the Panthers plated five runs combined to made their comeback.

"We're making a lot of mistakes that our program is not known for and we have a lot of work to do to get back to playing good softball as playoffs begin this week." Prescott head coach Matt Smith said.

Rachele Johnson and Paige Durhman both scored two runs and it was Durhman who was the Cardinals' top hitter in the ballgame with three, including a double and an RBI. Kellie Magee finished with two hits for the Redbirds.

Prescott hopes to turn things around before Thursday's first round, WIAA Division 3 regional contest Thursday at home vs. Boyceville by winning at St. Croix Falls this afternoon, their final regular season game.
