A fence being built around the new heating, ventilation and air conditioning unit is the first of many projects this summer being planned at the Pierce County Courthouse and Office Building.
Scott Walker, maintenance supervisor, said the project which has been on-going for the last month, is intended for safety and vandalism protection. It will be a concrete fence with a gate in the front. Late June or early July is the estimated completion date.
Other projects on the county’s list for this year include:
--Restrooms in the Courthouse and annex to be refurbished to meet ADA (Americans with Disabilities Act) standards. “It has to be done,” Walker said. The project is currently going through committees.
--A new exhibit building at the Fairgrounds, which will start construction after the Pierce County Fair, scheduled for Aug. 9-12. Walker said for future fairs, exhibits normally held at the Seyforth Building will be in this building. In other weeks, it will be used for cold storage.
--Repainting/ refurbishing the courthouse dome. Walker believes it’s been 25 years since this was done
“There are a few boards needing repainting and some rods that need tightening,” he said. “Structurally, the dome is still in good shape.”
This is the second part of remodelling the dome, as last summer the new windows were installed.
