Lobbying intensifies before Minneapolis City Council vote on Vikings' new stadium

MINNEAPOLIS - The Taxpayers League of Minnesota is turning up pressure, one day before the Minneapolis City Council is scheduled to vote on the city's portion of funding for a new Vikings stadium.
Mayor R.T. Rybak has twisted arms and it's the last hurdle stadium backers must clear before the project is officially a "go." Earlier this week the city attorney said a voter referendum is not necessary under the city charter, but some disagree.
The Taxpayers League this morning (10am) releases results of a phone survey of Minneapolis residents. League President Phil Krinkie says when a citizen told them they oppose city funding, they offered to patch them through to their councilmember so they could tell them -- and Krinkie says thousands of such connections were made.
