The Ellsworth High School tennis season ended yesterday at the WIAA Division 2 Eau Claire Regis Subsectionals.
EAU CLAIRE - The Ellsworth High School tennis season ended Monday at the WIAA Division 2 Eau Claire Regis Subsectional meet.
The Panthers finished sixth in the team standings with four points and did not qualify anyone for the sectional meet.
EHS's Will Huppert, seeded fourth, continued his winning ways at number three singles with a first round straight set victory over a player from Ashland 6-1, 6-1. He was then defeated by the number one seed from Regis 1-6, 3-6.
The Panthers number three doubles team of James Jean and Adrian Schott came up with probably the upset of the day. Seeded seventh, they knocked off the number two seeded team from Altoona in straight sets. The Altoona team had beat them twice in the past week. They won the first set 6-2, and were trailing in the second set 5-4, when they rallied to win the last three games of the set to win the match 7-5. This was their only victory of the season as a team. They went on to lose to the Amery team 7-5, 1-6.
Parker Johnson also did well with a three set loss to Altoona at number two singles.
The EHS boys' tennis team will have their last get together of the season on Thursday, May 31. We will have a tennis marathon that evening to raise funds to support Ellsworth Tennis. Our tennis program is self funding. All of the coaches are volunteer, and any compensation they may receive comes from fundraising efforts.
