Elmwood and Plum City keep on winning

The Elmwood softball and Plum City baseball teams ended long losing streaks in regional play last week. Now both the Raiders and Blue Devils teams have winning streaks going.

The Elmwood softball and Plum City baseball teams ended long losing streaks in regional play last week. Now both the Raiders and Blue Devils teams have winning streaks going.

Elmwood upended the top-seed in their region, Cornell, 4-3 Tuesday in a WIAA Division 4 semifinal contest while the Blue Devils whipped the top-seed in their Division 4 regional bracket, D-SC Small champ Elmwood, 7-1 in Elmwood yesterday afternoon.

PC (4-17) outhit the Raiders 8-2 and took advantage of four EHS (12-10) errors. They also took advantage of Chad Fox's pitching as he struck out seven for the win.

Fox also led the team in hitting with two while teammate Kris Krueger belted a home run and drove in two runs and scored twice. Brady Myer also doubled.

Plum City takes on Alma/Pepin in the regional final this afternoon at Pepin beginning at 5 p.m. The Eagles (9-10), the second seed in the regional routed Glenwood City 16-6 in the other semifinal match-up in Alma. The winner plays in the sectional next week in Bruce.

Meanwhile the Elmwood softball team edged Cornell (15-7) by a single run to reach the regional final for the second straight season. Winning pitcher McKayla Brunner tossed a two-hitter and struck out nine. She also had two hits, including a double, three RBIs and stole two bases.

The Raiders (5-19) will play in Eau Claire Thursday in the regional final against No. 3 seeded Immanuel Lutheran (9-12), who knocked off the defending regional champ Chippewa Falls McDonell 6-5 yesterday.
