DUCK LAKE, Mich. - The Wisconsin DNR is sending in new people to help contain a massive wildfire in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula.

Eight staff members from the Badger State, plus several large pieces of fire-fighting equipment, have been devoted to the Duck Lake Fire. The DNR says it’s replacing personnel who’ve been on the scene for several days.

The blaze was 55-percent contained as of yesterday. It has destroyed over 21,000 acres and 115 structures, including a store, a motel, and dozens of homes.

Michigan officials are getting outside help from the Great Lakes Forest Fire Compact, which is made up of that state plus Wisconsin, Minnesota, and the Canadian provinces of Ontario and Manitoba.
