More county athletes qualify for finals at state track meet, Colbenson 2nd in the 3200

LA CROSSE - Friday's action at the WIAA State Track and Field meet at Veterans Memorial Stadium wrapped up with more Pierce County athletes qualifying for Saturday's finals in several events.

Elmwood/Plum City will have another relay team competing today as their 1600-meter quartet of Heather Von Holtum, Elaina Danzinger, Sarah Gilles and Becky Hartung finished sixth in the prelims with a time of 4:10.17.

Also making it was Ellsworth's Lydia Kuhl in the 300-meter low hurdles. She finished ninth in the prelims in a time of :47.11 seconds.

Spring Valley's Breanna Colbenson ran her first race of the meet last night in the 3200-meter run. She ran a season-best time of 11:01.48 but again Hartland University Lake School's Molly Seidel stole the show as she beat her own state record with a first place time of 10:21.93.

Both Spring Valley and EPC are tied for seventh in the Division 3 girls' standings with eight points each. Ellsworth is 18th in the boys' D-2 standings with four points. PHS has one point in the girls D-2 standings and is in 30th place.

Prescott's Matt Pechacek ran in the 800-meter run last night and just missed scoring a point, finishing in ninth at 1:56.47. He also be running in with PHS's 3200-meter relay team today.

Also competing today will be Danzinger in the 800, Ellsworth's Alex Campbell in the long jump and high jump; Ellsworth's Abbey Ristow in the discus and her teammate Olivia Helmer in the triple jump; EPC's 800 and 1600 relay teams; EPC Seth Jones and Spring Valley's Tyler O'Keefe in the 400; Colbenson in the 800 and 1600-meter runs, Prescott's Victoria Simones in the 1600 and Spring Valley's Conner Sieracki in the 3200-meter run.

Jones finished 11th in the 800 last evening in 2:01.87. EPC's girls' 400-meter relay team finished 14th in :52.54 seconds and Sarah Gilles and Jessica Olson finished 12th and 14th respectively in the 300-meter low hurdle prelims with times of :49.42 and :50.30.
