LA CROSSE - Ellsworth's Abbey Ristow not only overcame a knee injury just to participate in track and field this spring, she overcame it to win the state title Saturday at the WIAA State Track and Field Meet at Veterans Memorial Stadium.
Ristow was not expected to compete in track due to a knee injury suffered during basketball season but with extensive rehab work on the knee and hard work on her own throwing the discus, she was able to be back throwing by late April and full participating in meets in early May.
Ristow won both the Middle Border Conference and regional titles and finished second at sectionals.
Ristow uncorked a career-best throw of 129 feet, four inches to win the Division 2 title. It came on her very last throw of the meet in the finals.
Last year she finished second.
Ristow won both the Middle Border Conference and regional titles but finished third in sectionals.
