I am excited to announce our track reconstruction project is set to begin next Monday.

This project will take most of the summer to complete, and will involve a lot of construction equipment movement in the area of the track and high school parking lots. During this construction, our two parking lots nearest to the track facility will be closed to all parking for safety purposes and the Safe Walkways may be re-routed or closed during specific days or phases of this construction project.

With our new walkways in the area of the track, we ask our community members and students who use this area be very careful and aware of the work being done in the area. During our summer school schedule, students and staff who use this area will be re-routed to avoid the construction traffic and project as a whole. We also encourage parents to speak with their children who will be using the pool facility this summer to encourage them to stay clear of this area.

Our residents will also see earth being moved on the high school grounds along Piety Street. This project is using fill we salvaged from the Safe Walkways project and from the site of the Ellsworth Cooperative Creamery project this past summer to landscape the field space to provide for an upgraded community space, physical education space and practice facility. This project should be completed by mid-June.

I am excited to see the progress begin on the reconstruction of our track facility and the field space mentioned above...Updating these spaces will provide our students and community with wonderful community resources for years to come.

Barry Cain is Superintendent of Ellsworth Schools.
