The Pierce County 4-H Shooting Sports Committee will be hosting the First Annual Western Gateway Statewide 4-H Shoot. It will be held on Saturday, June 9th at the River Falls Sportsman’s Club.
The event open to any 4-H member in the State of Wisconsin that is currently enrolled in a 4-H shooting sports program and is in the 3rd grade and at least 8 years old. There are a variety of disciplines to compete in such as archery, air rifle, air pistol, .22 rifle, .22 pistol, shot gun & wildlife ecology. There will also be three age categories – the Junior division for ages 8 (& in 3rd grade) – 11, the Intermediate division for ages 12-14 and the Senior division for ages 15-19. Anyone wishing to compete in any type of pistol or powder burning gun must be 12 years old or older.
The shoot is a National 4-H Invitational qualifying event as are many of them that are held around the state. This year we will have two Pierce County participants representing Pierce County at the National Invite in Grand Island, Nebraska the third week of June. Karissa Seibel of Ellsworth & Hank Larson of Spring Valley will be competing on the Wisconsin Air Pistol team. Pierce County has been fortunate enough the past few years to have had a representative at Nationals. This is a great way to promote Pierce County 4-H and a great experience for the kids. Currently, about 10-12 of the kids in Pierce County compete in the statewide shoots around the state & we would love to see more. It is a great way to get to know others around the state...many of which are now life long friends to some of those who have already been through the project.
Information & registration materials for the shoot can be found online at: http://4h.uwex.edu/onlinpro/shooting/2012CompetitiveShoots.cfm
Registrations will be taken at the door. Check in time starts at 8 a.m. For more info or questions call Event Co-directors Joe Seibel @ 715-273-5057 or Kevin Larson @ 715-778-4737. Anyone interested in encouraged to join us, even as a spectator, if they would like to come out and see what this very fun event is all about.
The Pierce County 4-H Shooting Sports program is one most rapidly growing project areas in our county. With over 75 boys and girls in the project, participating in many different disciplines, each year it continues to grow.
