Three of last year’s four champions are returning to the girls’ state high school softball tournament. The field was set yesterday after the sectional finals were played around the state. Defending Division-One champion Stevens Point will face Germantown in next Thursday’s quarter-finals at U-W Madison. Also, Chippewa Falls will play Sussex Hamilton. Appleton East will go against Westosha Central. And Sun Prairie will take on Franklin. Division-Two is the only one in which last year’s champion won’t be back. Union Grove didn’t make it to State, but four other teams did. Baldwin-Woodville will play West De Pere next Thursday night. And Monroe will take on Plymouth. Semi-finals in Divisions-Three-and-Four will be played next Friday. Returning champion Poynette will face Algoma. And Grantsburg will take on Stevens Point Pacelli. In Division-Four, Thorp will go against Tigerton, the only unbeaten team in the tournament. And last year’s champion Oakfield will play DeSoto. Title games in all four divisions will be played a week from tomorrow.
