STOUGHTON - A quiet, grieving group of friends, family and classmates gathered at La Follette County Park yesterday afternoon as crews looked for two missing teenage girls.

The bodies of Emma Maurer and Sydnie Kwiatkowski, both 16, were recovered from Lake Kegonsa. Both were students at Stoughton High School and Maurer was a member of the school’s swim team. Authorities controlled the scene of the gathering along Williams Drive, allowing only family and friends into the shelter area.

A spokesperson for the Dane County Sheriff’s office said the drownings are believed to be accidental and there were no indications of foul play. The girls had gone swimming Thursday after the final day of class for the school year. Final exams had been taken Thursday morning.
