Legislators to attend 'brat summit' at governor's mansion

MADISON - About three-fourths of Wisconsin lawmakers plan to attend tonight’s “Brat Summit” at the Governor’s Mansion, put on by Scott Walker.

The Republican Walker will man the grill for 60 Republicans, 37 Democrats, one Independent, and about 240 staff members. A number of Wisconsin companies have donated the food-and-beer for the event. Sprecher’s Root Beer even created a special label with Walker’s main slogan in his recall election bid – “Moving Wisconsin Forward.”

The governor first announced the Brat Summit in his Election Night victory speech last Tuesday. He says it will hope forge relationships that will make it easier for both parties to work together to create jobs. The event has attracted political posturing on both sides – and more suspicions. Madison Assembly Democrat Kelda Helen Roys of Madison says there’s quote, “no trust right now … and no sincerity” in Walker’s approach. Whitewater Republican Steve Nass says he’s staying away due to what he called “extreme” comments made recently by a couple of key Democrats. But other Democrats – including party leaders in both houses – say it’s a good way to start repairing relationships.
