Prescott wins the state title in extra innings

Clay Seifert's single in the bottom of the eighth inning scored Mike Lytle to give Prescott a 4-3 victory over Parkview in the Division 3 Baseball State Championship game Thursday afternoon.

GRAND CHUTE -- Freshman Clay Seifert's single in the bottom of the eighth inning scored Mike Lytle to give Prescott a 4-3 victory over Parkview in the WIAA Division 3 State Championship game Thursday afternoon in Appleton.

Lytle started the inning with a single and stole second. Brandon Keiper then laid down a sacrifice bunt, advancing Lytle to third, setting the stage for Seifert.

Billy Brookshaw earned the win as he pitched the last 2 1/3 innings in relief. He gave up only one hit and one walk. Lytle, who started and pitched into the sixth, led the Cardinal offense with two hits.

Prescott led 1-0 before Parkview scored three runs in the sixth inning. The Cardinals tied it up in the bottom of the inning, as Keiper's RBI double scored Lytle. Keiper then came around to score on a balk.

Trevor Aasen, who went 4-for-4, for Parkview took the loss. The Vikings did out hit the Cardinals 12-10.

Prescott now has two state titles in baseball, with the previous one coming in 1994.
