Heavy rains and flooding are forcing the evacuation of some homes near the Cannon River in Goodhue County. The National Weather Service says the highest precipitation total was eight-point-four-one inches in Cannon Falls and seven-point-two-two inches west of town. Six-and-three-quarters inches fell near Red Wing and there are several four and five-inch reports around Faribault, Owatonna and Freeborn in southeastern Minnesota. The heaviest rains were in eastern Dakota County and northern Goodue County.

The mother of the nine-year-old Coon Rapids boy critically injured in a hit-and-run crash is calling on the suspect to come forward. Amir Kahron Taylor was struck Wednesday night on his bike by a black Chevy Z-71 pickup and the driver failed to stop. Ravesha Kechell Harris says Amir suffered a brain injury and is sedated at North Memorial Medical Center. She issued a plea to the driver, saying, "You are very aware that you a hit a human being...right now my son is lying in a bed fighting for his life." The Anoka County Sheriff's Office is looking for a white man in his late 20's to early 30's with short blonde hair and a bearded face.

Police in Minneapolis are investigating the death of an elderly woman on the city's North Side. Officers and firefighters found the victim dead inside her home during a welfare check Thursday afternoon. The Hennepin County Medical Examiner determined the woman died as a result of homicide. Her identity will be released once the investigation is completed. No arrests have been made.

A Winona man has been sentenced to more than 24 years in federal prison on child pornography charges. Fifty-seven-year-old Dennis Chase was convicted last December on six counts of transportation and possession of child pornography. The indictment alleges that Chase sent pictures and videos of minors engaged in sexually explicit conduct and had images stored on his computer and external hard drives.
