A Farmington toddler was taken to a St. Paul hospital after falling from a second story townhome window Monday morning.
The child fell from a bedroom window of a townhouse in the 1100 block of Willow Tr., around 8:45 a.m. The boy fell approximately 12-14 feet and landed on the concrete porch below.
When Farmington police arrived, they found the child being held by a parent, sergeant Kevin Mincke said. The boy had contusions on the right side of his face and around his eye, but was otherwise alert and responsive.
Upon entering the home, Mincke found two pieces of toast by the window ledge. The screen had been pushed out of the window by the fall. Mincke did not know what the child had been doing prior to the fall.
However, when the child fell from the window, he first landed on the overhang to the unit’s porch, then fell to the ground. Mincke thinks the overhang may have lessened the impact of the fall, as the edge of the overhang is about eight feet high.
“Thankfully he wasn’t seriously injured,” Mincke said. “It’s hard to say what happened though. I can only guess at what he was doing.”
Regardless, the boy was taken to a St. Paul hospital by ALF Ambulance for examination and observation. Farmington fire/rescue also responded to the call.
This accident was the third of its kind in Farmington since April 26.
