ELAND - A funnel cloud was spotted in Shawano County, as high winds and hail-storms rolled through northern and eastern Wisconsin late yesterday afternoon. The funnel cloud was near Eland, about 25 miles east of Wausau.

Wisconsin’s mid-section was hit this morning with its second round of heavy thunderstorms in the last 18 hours. The National Weather Service said power lines went down in Eau Claire, with winds of up to 54-miles-an-hour. In Taylor County, Stetsonville had scattered power outages, and a tree fell on a house there. Medford had three-quarter-inch hail. And Merrill had street flooding and large trees uprooted. All this occurred between 5:25 and 6:45 this morning. To the east, a severe thunderstorm warning was posted until 7:30 for a large corner of northeast Wisconsin

Winds gusted to 55-miles-an-hour at Appleton – and southern Wisconsin had gusts up to 45-miles-an-hour which caused around seven-thousand We Energies’ customers to lose their power. Utility officials said tree limbs blew onto power lines, which cut off service in sporadic areas. The Wisconsin Public Service utility said almost 20 customers were still in the dark this morning at Oshkosh. Winchester in Winnebago County had tennis-ball-sized hail. Places from Colby to Appleton had an inch or more of rain. Prescott in Pierce County had one-and-a-quarter-inch hail just after 4:30 this morning.

Meanwhile, more severe weather could be on the way today. A warm front is pushing northward through central and northern Wisconsin – and forecasters say those places could get hit hard again. The National Weather Service has a severe thunderstorm watch in effect until eight a.m. for west-central Wisconsin. And flash flood watches are in effect in the far northwest until one tomorrow afternoon, and in west-central Wisconsin until one p.m. on Thursday.
