Monday State Sports Briefs: Kenseth gains 31 points despite 13th place finish

-- Matt Kenseth gains 31 points and a 13th place finish at the Toyota-Save Mart 350 Sunday while remaining atop the Sprint Cup Series with 596 points.

Clint Bowyer came in first, Tony Stewart second and Kurt Busch third. Paul Menard of Eau Claire came in 20th while Travis Kvapil of Janesville came in 36th.

Some Wisconsinites had a busy Sunday. In the PGA National Championship tournament, Rick Witt of Madison fared the best among Badger State natives in being tied for 26th. Ryan Helminen of Appleton was tied-for-106th, Jim Schuman of Verona tied-for-139th and Charlie Brown of Sturdevant tied-for-250th. In the first day of the Seaside California tourney Eddie Terasa of Waukesha tied for 201st and Madison native Jerry Kelly was tied-for-37th in the close of the four-day Connecticut Travelers Championship. Dan Forsman of Rhinelander finished tied for 28th at the finish of the three-day Montreal Championship.

Brewers GM Doug Melvin was inducted into the Canadian Hall of Fame Sunday. He's one of five Canadians who became a major league general manager.
