Wild choose Dumba as first pick in NHL draft
Minnesota Sports-- The Minnesota Wild chose Matthew Dumba as their first round pick in the NHL entry draft held last weekend in Pittsburgh.
ST. PAUL - The Minnesota Wild chose Matthew Dumba as their first round pick in the NHL entry draft held last weekend in Pittsburgh.
The Canadian defenseman is the 11th-ranked North American skater by NHL Central Scouting and is the seventh defenseman on that list. He plays for the Red Deer Rebels and led all WHL defensemen with 20 goals in 69 games during the 2011-12 season. He finished sixth in the league with 57 points and was named captain of Canada's U-18 World Junior Championship team and led the tournament with 12 points in seven games. He was named the Best Defenseman at the 2012 U-18 World Championship.
The Wild also selected Raphael Bussiere, a left wing from Baie Comeau of the QMJHL; John Draeger, a defenseman from Shattuck-St. Mary`s in Fairbault, Minn.; Adam Gilmour, a center from Nobles High School in Nobles, Mass.; Daniel Gunnarsson, a defenseman from Lulea, Sweeden; Christoph Bertschy, a center from Bern, Switzerland and Louis Nanne, a left wing from Edina, Minn. High School.
