State News Briefs: Polling shows Madison the U.S. city most excited for the Summer Olympics
Wisconsin News-- Madison is the U-S city most excited for the Olympic Summer Games.
Madison is the U-S city most excited for the Olympic Summer Games. No other Wisconsin city cracked the top ten in research done by MaxPoint Interactive, a firm that helps businesses target advertising. The June index used social media hits, online searches and online magazines to gauge interest in U-S neighborhoods. It said neighborhoods in Middleton, right next to Madison, proper had the highest interest. Cities second and third on the list were Lansing, Michigan and Knoxville, Tennessee.

Wisconsin's largest school district will end long practice of giving full benefits to part time workers. Milwaukee Public Schools school board last night decided instead it will require M-P-S employees to work at least 30 hours a week. The plan would save M-P-S about four-million-dollars a year. The entire district would be affected the 2013 - 2014 school year but would go into effect for some new hires starting July 1st. Right now, 282 employees in the school system work more than 20 hours per week but less than 30. The proposal passed the board 5 to 2.

As the Fourth of July holiday nears, the U-S-D-A is out with more warnings about spreading invasive species into new areas. Rebecca Blue says for campers, it goes beyond leaving firewood where it is. She's encouraging folks to take a look at lawn chairs and tents to make sure none of the pests are trying to hitchhike with you. Blue also warns against shipping fruits, vegetables and plants from state-to-state unless the contents of the package have been inspected by the U-S-D-A.

A Wisconsin native now living in Colorado Springs has been driven from his home by the massive fire. Steve Rohrer, who grew up in Waupun, says he may not even have a house by now. Rohrer told WHBL in Sheboygan he was on vacation in Canada and knew about the fire, but didn’t think it was a threat to their home until they returned on Tuesday. He and partner Tracy Davis were given 5 minutes to get into their house and grab some belongings. Rohrer said it was just about that time that the wind switched and they could barely breath as they fled the home. He said they then found a hotel about 5 miles away and then were evacuated from there as well. They are now staying with a friend about 25 miles away.

Guests at a Wisconsin Dells hotel get awakened by an early morning fire. The Carousel Inn and Suites in Lake Delton was full of guests when the blaze started around 2 a-m. Six area fire departments helped put out the fire. Guests were relocated to another hotel.
