PRESCOTT--Prescott Community Recreation (PCR) has received a $1,280 grant from the Prescott Foundation to purchase two portable pitching mounds for use in the fifth and sixth grade traveling baseball programs.
These portable pitching mounds are a welcome addition to the programs because they will allow these younger players the experience of pitching from a mound for practices and games. The fifth and sixth grade baseball teams use the softball fields on Borner Street for both practices and games and, as many are aware, the pitching area on a softball field is a flat surface.
In the past, the teams have been at a disadvantage when competing with other communities having the benefit of playing and practicing either on traditional baseball fields or with their own portable pitching mounds. These mounds will offer the Prescott players a chance to compete on a more level playing field with the other communities in their league.
The portable mounds will also allow for the capability to easily convert the fields from softball to baseball and back again for all games and practices. This should ultimately reduce the number of times holes need to be dug in the fields moving and installing pitching rubbers.
