MILWAUKEE - Waukesha says Milwaukee is making a mistake and Milwaukee points the finger back at its suburb. Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett says Waukesha will cost its residents and businesses millions of dollars a year if it decides to accept a deal for water from Lake Michigan offered by Oak Creek or Racine.
That project would require much longer pipelines. Barrett says Milwaukee Water Works Superintendent Carrie Lewis will try to talk to Waukesha city officials Monday.
But, Waukesha is also talking money. Acting City Administrator Steve Crandall says the larger city will miss out on more than three million dollars each year if it doesn’t reach a common ground on supplying lake water for Waukesha.
