RIVER FALLS - A 22-year-old man with no confirmed address died after a Friday morning, July 6, knife stabbing at an apartment building at 233 W. Cascade Ave.
The victim was identified as Dylan T. Barry. River Falls police know of the man but don't have his address yet. Another man, William E. Sangster Jr., 22, also without a confirmed address, was also found stabbed and taken to River Falls Area Hospital before being transferred to Regions Hospital in St. Paul.
The stabbing suspect is Codi J. Walztoni, 18, 233 W. Cascade Ave. #106, which is where the incident occurred at about 8:50 a.m. Police are still not saying what the motive may have been.
Walztoni was arrested for aggravated battery. Formal charges are pending with the Pierce County district attorney.
Police Chief Roger Leque would not comment about whether Walztoni will be charged with murder.
Leque said a preliminary investigation shows there was a confrontation among Sangster, Barry and Walztoni in Walztoni's apartment. Sangster and Barry received wounds caused by a kitchen knife.
Police are being assisted in this investigation by the St. Croix and Pierce county sheriff's departments, UW-River Falls police and River Falls ambulance.
Said Leque: "At this time, there is no danger to the greater community arising out of this incident."
The Wisconsin State Crime Laboratory's Mobile Crime Scene Unit has arrived in River Falls to assist in the evidentiary processing of the incident.
Earlier Police Sgt. Jon Aubart said there were five or six witnesses.
The apartment building where the double stabbing took place is located near the entrance to the Swinging Bridge that leads to Glen Park.
Walztoni was arrested by police at his apartment last month for possession of psilocybin (hallucinogenic) mushrooms, marijuana with intent to deliver, and drug paraphernalia.
At the time, Walztoni had been in a fight with two other men in the building who fled before officers arrived.
