Local teen gets probation in burglary case

An Ellsworth teenager was sentenced to a deferred prosecution agreement last month for burglary.

Brandon M. Kimbler, 19, entered into the agreement, stemming from incidents in March when he was alleged to have committed three burglaries in a four-day span. He was also put on probation for two years on two counts of misdemeanor theft. Kimbler could apply for expungement if he completes the agreement and probation.

The burglaries included the Prescott Public Works building and Wang’s Excavating, south of River Falls.

According to the criminal complaint, Pierce County Sheriff’s Department became aware of the crimes when a deputy pulled over Kimbler and James M. Leonard, 18, in the early morning hours of April 1. During the stop, the deputy found some car batteries, copper wires, bolt cutters and other miscellaneous tools, which the pair said were the vehicle’s owner’s. The owner denied it.

Investigators received information the public works building had been burglarized the previous night. Public works workers came to the sheriff’s impound lot and were able to identify dozens of items in the car – battery charger, sawzall, bolt cutters, receiver hitch, sledge hammer and hacksaw – that belonged to the department.
