HOUSTON - Minnesota Vikings star running back Adrian Peterson took to Twitter yesterday to defend himself a day after his arrest at a Houston nightclub.

Peterson tweeted "Thank you for waiting for the fact. Truth will surface" on his Twitter account on Sunday. Peterson spent Saturday morning in a Houston jail after police say he pushed a nightclub bouncer, who was also an off-duty policeman. Peterson is scheduled for a court appearance on Friday on resisting arrest charges.

Amy Senser will be sentenced today in the hit-and-run death of Anousoune Phanthavong last August in Minneapolis. The 45-year-old wife of former Viking tight end Joe Senser was convicted on two counts of criminal vehicular homicide for the accident that killed Phanthavong on an I-94 ramp. Sentencing guidelines call for 41 to 57 months in prison. Defense attorney Eric Nelson asked the judge to sentence Senser to probation, saying she has no criminal record and punishment of community service would be more worthwhile. But prosecutor Deborah Russell said Senser has shown no remorse for her choice not to call 9-1-1 immediately after the crash. She's urging the judge to sentence her to no less than 57 months in prison.

Minnesota Timberwolves star Kevin Love was officially named to the U.S. Men's Olympic basketball team roster on Saturday night. He joins 11 other NBA stars to comprise the team which will compete for a gold medal in London later this month and into August. New York's Tyson Chandler, Philadelphia's Andre Iguodala, Oklahoma City's Kevin Durant and Russell Westbrook join Love as returning gold medalist from the 2010 FIBA World Championship. Five other players are returning after winning gold at the 2008 Olympics in China. New York's Carmelo Anthony, Lakers' Kobe Bryant, Miami's LeBron James, Clippers' Chris Paul and Brooklyn's Deron Williams were a part of the 2008 team. Clippers' Blake Griffin and OKC's James Harden are joining the U.S. National team for the first time. The team will work out in Las Vegas through Thursday of this week.

Today is a big day for the Minnesota Wild. After signing the top two free agents in the NHL this offseason, the club will officially introduce the pair at a lunchtime news conference today. Last week, Zach Parise and Ryan Suter each signed 13-year contracts worth just shy of $100-million-dollars. Season ticket sales have already increased by more than one-thousand since the signings were announced on the Fourth of July.

The Minnesota Wild signed free agent defenseman Brian Connelly to a two-year, two-way contract over the weekend. The 26-year-old Bloomington native spent last season in the AHL, scoring six goals and handing out 46 assists in 72 games with Rockford and Abbotsford. He was an AHL all-star last season. He played college hockey at Colorado College.

Some of the top prospects in the Minnesota Wild organization will be on the ice this week as the team opens a six-day development camp. The team will showcase several players they think can be future stars, including Mikael Granlund, Jason Zucker and Charlie Coyle There will be two scrimmages that are free and open to the public at the Xcel Energy Center. The first scrimmage will be Thursday at 7 p.m., with the second exhibition happening on Sunday at 11 a.m. Houston Aeros head coach John Torchetti will lead the camp, which gets underway tomorrow after players report today. Houston is the AHL affiliate of the Wild. Recently-signed free agents Zach Parise and Ryan Suter will not be part of the prospects camp.

The WNBA Minnesota Lynx battle the Shock in Tulsa tomorrow. The Lynx have lost three straight to dip to 13-and-4 on the season. The Shock visit Minnesota on Thursday, then the league takes a five-week break for the summer Olympics. Three members of the Lynx are on the USA Olympic roster, including Lindsay Whalen, Seimone Augustus, and Maya Moore.

Apple Valley's Tyus Jones helped the United States national basketball team to a 95-62 gold medal win over Australia in yesterday's title game at the U-17 World Basketball Championships in Lithuania. The tournament is for players 17-years-old and younger. The 16-year-old Jones handed out a game-high six assists in the gold medal game and scored two points. Jones is considered one of the top players in the country at his age group and is already receiving college scholarship offers from some of the top programs in America. He just completed his sophomore year at Apple Valley.

Former University of Minnesota star defensive tackle John Williams passed away yesterday. Williams earned all-Big Ten honors in 1967, helping Minnesota a share of the Big Ten title. He was drafted by the Baltimore Colts and helped them win the 1971 Super Bowl. He also played for the Los Angeles Rams before retiring in 1979. He returned to Minnesota and began a dental practice. He was considered a community leader, serving on the Metropolitan Airports Commission, and volunteering in many charity events and activities over the years. He was recovering from a kidney transplant and apparently died while on a walk on Sunday. He was 64 years old.

Roger Federer captured his record-tying seventh Wimbledon title yesterday. The third-seeded Federer notched a 4-6, 7-5, 6-3, 6-4 win over Andy Murray. The 30-year-old Federer won his 17th career major title.

Serena Williams claimed her fifth Wimbledon title on Saturday with a three-set win over Agnieszka Radwanska. Williams won the first five games of Saturday's final, then stumbled in the second set before pulling it out with a 6-1, 5-7, 6-2 victory for her 14th career Grand Slam championship and first since capturing the title at the All England Club in 2010. The 30-year-old American's other Wimbledon victories came in 2002, 2003 and 2009. Radwanska was appearing in her first Grand Slam final and was the first Polish player in a major title match since 1939.

Tony Stewart drove his number-14 Chevy from the rear of the field to a victory in the Coke Zero 400 at Daytona International Speedway Saturday night. "Smoke" passed points leader Matt Kenseth on the final lap and survived a huge wreck on the final frontstretch to earn his third win of the season. The defending Sprint Cup champion qualified second but started 42nd after failing post-qualifying inspection for an illegal cooling hose. Four of Stewart's 47 Cup wins have come at Daytona yet he's never won the Daytona 500. Jeff Burton finished second while Kenseth's bid to become the first driver to score a season-sweep at Daytona came up short with a third-place run. Joey Logano and Ryan Newman rounded out the top-five.
