Wild welcome Suter, Parise to Twin Cities

-- The Minnesota Wild welcomed Zach Parise and Ryan Suter to the Twin Cities. The Wild held a press conference with the American-born pair on Monday at the Xcel Energy Center in St. Paul. Minnesota inked the two highly sought-after free agents on the Fourth of July. Both deals are worth $98-million over 13 years.

ST. PAUL -- The Minnesota Wild welcomed Zach Parise and Ryan Suter to the Twin Cities. The Wild held a press conference with the American-born pair on Monday at the Xcel Energy Center in St. Paul. Minnesota inked the two highly sought-after free agents on the Fourth of July. Both deals are worth $98-million over 13 years.

Parise returned from an injury-shortened 2010-11 campaign to post 31 goals and 69 points in 82 regular-season games for the Devils last season. The former New Jersey captain added eight scores and 15 points in 24 postseason tilts as the Devils came up short in the Stanley Cup Finals against Los Angeles.

Suter had up seven goals and 46 points in 79 games for the Nashville Predators a season ago. The 27-year-old defenseman picked up a goal and three assists in 10 playoff appearances.

Some of the top prospects in the Minnesota Wild organization will be on the ice today as the team opens a six-day development camp. The team will showcase several players they think can be future stars, including Mikael Granlund, Jason Zucker and Charlie Coyle. There will be two scrimmages that are free and open to the public at the Xcel Energy Center The first scrimmage will be Thursday at 7 p.m., with the second exhibition happening on Sunday at 11 a.m. Houston Aeros head coach John Torchetti will lead the camp, which gets underway today after players reported yesterday. Houston is the AHL affiliate of the Wild.
