RED WING - Wisconsin and Minnesota authorities were scheduled to take part today in a major training exercise in-and-around the Prairie Island nuclear power plant. Rescuers and emergency service personnel from communities in both states were taking part.
The exercise takes place every two years – and it also included staffers from Xcel Energy and two federal agencies – the Nuclear Regulatory Commission and the Department of Homeland Security.
The simulated emergencies are designed to help a variety of responders learn what to do in case of a real nuclear incident.
