Packers made nearly $43 million in profits last year

Wisconsin Sports
-- The Green Bay Packers made a record profit of $42.7 million dollars last year.

GREEN BAY - The Green Bay Packers made a record profit of $42.7 million dollars last year. That’s a 150-percent increase from the year before.

Team president Mark Murphy credits heavy fan interest during the Packers’ 15-1 regular season in 2011 – combined by the excitement from Green Bay’s Super Bowl title in the 2010 season. The team’s total revenues were 302-million-dollars last year, up by $19-million dollars from the previous year. Besides the net income, the Packers set financial records for its total revenue, local revenues, and profits from team operations. The Packers also had lower expenses, due mainly to the NFL owners’ lockout that ended just before the teams were scheduled to open their training camps last July. Green Bay’s expenses totaled $259-million, down by $11.5 million.

The figures do not include the $64-million the Packers brought in when they added 250,000 new stockholders over the winter. It was the team’s first stock sale since 1997. The Packers are the NFL’s only publicly-owned team – and they’re the only one that releases its financial data. It was released in advance of the Packers’ stockholders meeting on July 24th at Lambeau Field. Training camp practices begin two days later.
