VIROQUA - Officials in Vernon County have confirmed that the death of a 52-year-old woman on July 9 was heat related.

This is the third confirmed heat-related death this summer, with a 68-year-old woman dying in La Crosse and a 91-year-old man dying in Onalaska. Officials urge residents to check on their elderly neighbors when its hot as they are especially vulnerable to the hot temperatures.

An Appleton man has been arrested on child abuse charges after being accused of assaulting his 17-year-old son. The teen called authorities after his 46-year-old father allegedly pushed him down, knocking him into some bushes where he cut his neck. The incident happened around 11 p.m. Thursday. The man has been charged with felony chlid abuse and disorderly conduct.

Police in Little Chute have arrested a 66-year-old man for the seventh time on drunk-driving charges. Arthur L. Fernandez was pulled over by a Fox Valley Metro police officer when he was spotted driving at night without his headlights on. He was on parole supervision. Fernandez was arrested and taken to Outagamie County jail. He's awaiting a court appearance on the felony charges, DUI and probation violation.

A teenager has been arrested in Waupun after a homeowner walked in on him stealing things. The 16-year-old was arrested after patrol officers spotted him walking in the neighborhood. He's been taken to Fond du Lac County Secure Detention. Charges are pending. The victim says the teen took cash.

The new human resources director for the Green Bay School District is a former board president. Jean Marsch will take over the role from outgoing director Margaret Christensen, who has moved on to take an HR job in California. Marsch retired from the school board in April. She served for 15 years.
