Busalacchi leads state-am tourney after one round

KENOSHA - Eric Busalacchi is the first-round leader at the State Amateur golf tournament.

Busalacchi, who graduated this spring from Carroll University in Waukesha, shot a five-under-par 67 on a hot but breezy day at the links-style Strawberry Creek course.

Max Hosking of Madison and Brady Strangstalien of Westby are tied for second at four-under-68. UW-Parkside junior Jake Wisniewski is three strokes back in fourth place.

Tee times have been set for the British Open, which begins on Thursday at the Royal Lytham and Saint Anne’s course in England. Pewaukee native Mark Wilson will begin his first round at 7:10 a.m. Wisconsin time – and he’s in a three-some with Branden Grace and Robert Karlsson. Steve Stricker of Madison will start just before nine on Thursday morning, in a group with Anders Hansen and Toru Taniguichi. Both those groups will play overnight on Friday. Wilson will begin his second round just before two-in-the-morning. Stricker’s tee time on Friday is at 3:42 a.m.
